Buck's Pocket State Park, AL

Looking down towards the headquarters

No doubt about it: Buck's Pocket is remote. At least it's remote by Alabama standards; by the time you've gotten to Guntersville State Park, you still have another 20-plus miles to Buck's Pocket. Like it's neighboring park to the southwest, Buck's Pocket also has lofty mountain bluffs, along with rappeling (with a park permit), plus a beautiful creek running through the steep-walled canyon, hence the name "pocket". The park headquarters are in the canyon. This photo was taken from the overlook area on a very cool day for summer.

Directions

The easiest way is to just follow the signs; it's pretty convoluted trying to put it into words! But basically, you'll go east from the city of Guntersville on highway 227 and pass Guntersville State Park. Turning right at one point to stay on the same highway 227, you'll then turn left just after Mile Marker 35. The road signs are pretty clear.
