Singing WILLOW FLYCATCHERS were found earlier this month on Wheeler NWR and are probably nesting. On June 16 three birds were found in the same location west of Limestone Bay in the White Springs Dewatering Unit. To reach the spot from I-65, follow I-565 east for a short distance and take exit #2 south into Mooresville. Turn right at the stop onto old AL 20. After crossing the bridges turn left on the gravel road towards Arrowhead Landing. At the boat ramp continue on following the shoreline road and bear right at the first gated refuge road. In a short distance this road crosses under I-65. Park off the road here. Warning: this is an isolated area and car break-ins have occurred - take the normal precautions. Walk or bike south on the road between the I-65 causeways to the second dirt road in about 1.25 miles. Turn right (west) and go around 0.75 miles to an area with extensive willow on both sides of the road, just before a large wet area. The birds have been active on the left side of the road. It can be a hot, buggy area in summer so come prepared. [DeAL 18-F4] [BGtA p. 244]. SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS were seen this month building a nest near Priceville in Morgan County. This is the same general location breeding has occurred in recent years. From AL67 in town follow Bethel Road north for around 0.5 mile and check fences and power lines for these birds.
